Running Strong — The Sarfan Center 5K Celebrates 40 Years

On Sunday, May 17th, the Sarfan Center hosted its 40th Annual 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run and what a milestone it was! What started four decades ago as a small neighborhood race has grown into one of our community's most cherished annual traditions, and this year's celebration did not disappoint.

With perfect weather, over 100 registered participants and a festive atmosphere from start to finish, this year's race was a celebration forty years in the making. Participants ranged from the tiniest Sarfan Center toddlers to longtime community members, proving that this beloved tradition truly has something for everyone. Sarfan Center teachers lined the race path, cheering on runners and walkers every step of the way. After crossing the finish line, participants were treated to donuts, snow cones, popcorn and bounce houses, making the finish line just the beginning of the fun.

"This race holds a special place in our hearts. Watching our littlest Sarfan Center children line up alongside members of the broader community year after year is exactly what this event is all about: bringing people together, celebrating milestones and reminding us why we do this work every day. Forty years is something truly worth celebrating," shared Carmela Malkin Kuhn, Sarfan Center Education Director.

A special thank you to this year's Sarfan Center race committee: Holly Vance, Lindsay Morena, Jillian Pohto and Kallie Roberts, who put in countless hours of planning and organizing to make this year's event the success it was. Their dedication behind the scenes is what makes race day look effortless.

"Watching this community come together on race day with energy and excitement — that never gets old! It means so much to see so many people showing up in support of our amazing preschool. That's what community looks like and we are so honored to help make it happen every year," reflected Morena.

None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our 21 sponsors, whose commitment to this event and our community made the day truly special.

Here's to 40 years and many more miles ahead!
