Our community Sunday school came together for a special program centered on the beautiful Jewish concept of Hakarat HaTov—literally translated as "recognizing the good." Children of all ages explored this timeless value and discovered how cultivating an attitude of gratitude enriches our lives and strengthens our connections with one another and the world around us.
Throughout the program, students engaged in thoughtful discussions about what it means to recognize and appreciate the good in our lives, from the small everyday blessings to the larger gifts we often take for granted. Through interactive activities and meaningful conversations, the children learned that gratitude is not just about saying "thank you," but about developing a deeper awareness of the kindness, support and beauty that surrounds us.
The highlight of the day was a special mitzvah project that gave students the opportunity to put their learning into action. The children expressed their gratitude by supporting Jewish American service members through acts of kindness and giving. This hands-on experience helped them understand that Hakarat HaTov extends beyond personal appreciation—it calls us to acknowledge and honor those who serve and sacrifice for our communities and country.
We were honored to have Danny Brothers, a former IDF soldier, and Tess Goldblatt, a former Army Captain, join us to share their personal military stories with our students. Their firsthand accounts of service and commitment added depth and meaning to our learning experience, helping the children connect the concept of gratitude to real-world experiences and Jewish identity. Their stories resonated deeply with the students and sparked thoughtful questions and reflections about service, sacrifice and gratitude.
"Bringing our community's children together for these joint Sunday school programs creates something truly special," said Carmela Malkin Kuhn, who organizes the programs. "Watching kids of all ages learn and grow together while exploring our Jewish values reminds us of the strength and beauty of our community."
Thank you to all the families, educators and volunteers who joined us for this enriching experience. We look forward to continuing to explore Jewish values together as a community!
