Period Poverty is a growing public health crisis. Access to hygiene products is not optional, it’s essential.

Dignity Grows is a national nonprofit working to end Period Poverty in the United States. Through direct hygiene support, groundbreaking research and systemic advocacy, we ensure that women and girls have consistent access to menstrual and hygiene necessities essential for education, employment, health and household stability.

We’re Bringing Dignity Grows to the Virginia Peninsula

Hope in a Bag is a signature Dignity Grows program facilitated by local chapters across the country, and Jewish Peninsula is proud to host this vital initiative in our community!

Each month, hygiene tote bags are distributed through trusted partner organizations to ensure that women, girls and families have what they need to thrive.

Why This Matters

  • 41.9% of American women have experienced Period Poverty in their lifetime
  • Nearly half of women who cannot afford products report related health complications
  • 57% of women experiencing Period Poverty report a decline in their mental health
  • 99% of women who have experienced Period Poverty say it is imperative that a woman has access to products in her own home, as opposed to just public spaces

Period Poverty goes hand-in-hand with food insecurity, gender equity and personal economic stability.

Ways To Get Involved

When women thrive, communities rise. Ending Period Poverty strengthens health, education and employment outcomes nationwide.
